Why do you need my Social Security Number?

There are three reasons:

  1. For the Patriot Act - The federal government requires a nationwide search based on this information to confirm monies aren't being used, transferred, or borrowed for terrorist purposes.
  2. For domestic relations - Unpaid spousal and child support are lienable in Pennsylvania. This support obligation may need to be brought current before buying or selling a property.
  3. For the permission to obtain payoffs and information - The right to privacy act prevents lenders, banks and companies from distributing information on your accounts without your permission and specific information. Seller will be receiving a request in the mail or by phone to obtain permission and confirm information. Lenders and lien holders will require social security numbers to release information. In the case of Jr's and Sr's, having this information will make the process go smoother.
